I was born in Guadalajara, México.

My parents named me Camila after María Luisa Bemberg’s 1984 film. I was a weird kid and the first of my class until I got to college, when I realized there are more important things than getting good grades. I’m still nerdy about the things I like, however, like records and cheese.

I got my BA at ITESO, in my hometown. I started out in Political Science, and after a trip to La Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City, I decided to change to Communication Sciences. During my college years, I was heavily involved in political activism and extracurricular activities. A class on Sociocultural Theory showed me that I wanted to pursue an academic career, and after graduating with a thesis on telenovelas, I moved to Austin to start my PhD in Iberian and Latin American Cultures and Languages. Some other things that I am: a DJ with Chulita Vinyl Club, a devoted friend, a swimming pool enthusiast, a Libra, a perpetual learner.
